This is because in their quest for ever higher ratings, FM broadcasters crank up the average level of their modulating signal in order to sound 'louder'. This produces noticeably more muddy and constrained sound than your signal! You must choose a frequency between these 3 ranges: 88-94, 91-100, or 95-108Mhz (We need to know which range when we assemble the unit, it can always be changed later by switching a capacitor).
